Education / Credentials / Qualifications:
· Mr Khalid Kamel MD MRCSI(Gen) FEBOphth FRCSI(Ophth)
· Dual qualification from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland RCSI including a Fellowship in Ophthalmic Surgery FRCSI(Ophth) and Membership in General Surgery MRCSI. He is a fellow of the European Board of Ophthalmology FEBOphth.
· A lab based MD degree in Medicine from the University College of Dublin UCD in 2019 looking at Mitochondrial Dysfunction in Lamina Cribrosa cells of Glaucoma Subjects.
· Professional Certificate in Healthcare Management Practice with Distinction from the respected UCD Michael Smurfit School of Business
· Mr Kamel is on the Specialist Register in Ireland and the UK and he is a recognised trainer in ophthalmology by the GMC in UK.

Professional Experience / Previous Hospitals:
· His Experience extends over 13 years employing various conventional and recently developed surgical approaches for management of complex glaucoma including: Trabeculectomy, Tube Surgery (Paul tube), Preserflo microshunt, Laser (SLT, Cyclodiode, YAG) and minimally invasive glaucoma surgery MIGS (Hydrus, iStent, OMNI).
· Mr Kamel has won research awards and medals and has peer reviewed and published in several major Ophthalmology journals (e.g. IOVS, Eye)
· He has been invited to speak internationally including Milan and Dubai and he presented his work over 3 continents.
· He underwent his extensive Ophthalmology training in Ireland obtaining CSCST in Ophthalmic Surgery from the RCSI in 2022 followed by a year as a senior clinical glaucoma fellow at the prestigious Manchester Royal Eye Hospital learning from internationally recognised experts in glaucoma surgery. He was appointed as a consultant cataract and glaucoma surgeon in Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust for 2 years where he improved the glaucoma service by introducing cutting edge technology for the first time in the trust. He moved back to Ireland in 2025 as a permanent glaucoma consultant in the South Infirmary Victoria University Hospital in Cork.
· He has 3 years of experience as a clinical Lecturer in Ophthalmology at UCD delivering Lectures, Workshops and Tutorials for over 600 medical students. This was followed by a 2 year position as an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Sheffield.
