Paediatric Orthopaedic service - 29th February 2012
Dear GP
As part of the reorganisation of acute hospital services in Cork city, the elective Paediatric Orthopaedic service (inpatient, day and outpatients) has recommenced and is now based in theSouth Infirmary–Victoria University Hospital (SIVUH).
Dr. Colm Taylor, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, special interest paediatric orthopaedic surgery, has recently taken up appointment in SIVUH and Cork University Hospital (CUH). Referrals to this service will now be accepted for children residing in the Cork and Kerry region. The Paediatric Orthopaedic trauma service will continue to be provided in CUH.
The elective orthopaedic outpatient service will continue to be provided at the former St. Mary’s Orthopaedic Hospital (SMOH) now known as St. Mary’s Health Campus until the closure of the Emergency Department service at SIVUH. The date of this transfer will be notified to you when dates are confirmed.
All patient referrals for elective orthopaedic appointments can now be made to:

The NCCP are delighted to work with the Dermatology Services at the South Infirmary Victoria University Hospital, Cork to pilot the NCCP Melanoma GP Referral Guidelines and NCCP Pigmented Lesions GP Referral Form with GPs in Cork. These guidelines take into account evidence-based research, the findings of the National Cancer Strategy 2006, and expert opinion.
These guidelines aim to shorten the time period to diagnosis for those patients in whom there is a strong suspicion of melanoma. We hope to roll out the NCCP Melanoma GP Referral Guidelines and NCCP Pigmented Lesion GP Referral Form once the pilot has been completed.
We would very much appreciate your participation in this pilot. Our thanks to the dermatology teams, GPs and other health care professionals who assisted in the development of this guideline and form.
