Pre-Admission Assessment Unit Mission Statement

We, as a Nurse–led Unit aim to deliver an efficient and effective pathway for our patients prior to surgery. We endeavour to engage in evidence-based practice to ensure quality and safe outcomes of care for our patients.

Department Profile

The Pre-Admission Unit (PAAU) provides a pre-assessment service to all elective orthopedic patients. All patients are provided with an appointment to attend the Unit or are pre-assessed over the telephone.

Patients having elective joint replacements are also seen by the Pharmacist, Physiotherapist and Occupational Therapist (patients having hip replacements only).

Currently the PAAU provides a limited preassessment service to elective surgical patients. The service will expand to include all elective surgical patients in the future.
