Department Description


The main role of The Portering Department is the transportation of patients and equipment between Departments within the Hospital. We provide a support service for the other Hospital Departments and we are also responsible for internal security in the hospital, with the exception of the A&E and Outpatient Departments.

Staff

The Department has 35 staff members employed in both a full time and part time capacity and is led by Mr Colm Murray Portering Services Officer who is assisted by two Deputies Mr Michael Tighe and Mr Micheal O'Connell.

General Hospital Porters are on duty 24 hours a day. There are also Porters assigned to work in specific areas such as Theatre (4 Porters) Medical Records (2 Porters) Pathology (2 Porters).

The general Hospital Porters are contacted through the Hospital bleep system.
