The Pathology Department is committed to implementing the above mentioned Hospital Mission Statement and specifically to providing a high quality, efficient, cost effective and comprehensive pathology service to its users. The Pathology Department is committed to providing high quality standards with regards to all aspects of the clinical laboratory service to ensure a high standard of patient care.
The Phlebotomy Department provides a varied service within the hospital. It covers all the wards providing two ward rounds each morning Monday-Friday and one ward round each Saturday and Sunday morning. The Phlebotomy Clinic located in the Pathology Building provides an important outpatient service to patients attending Outpatient clinics within the hospital and to General Practitioners in the City and County. The clinic does not provide a paediatric phlebotomy service for children less than 8 years of age from GPs.
The Phlebotomy clinic provides a walk-in service for patient blood tests. The service is available to patients attending consultants in the SIVUH and to GP patients. Patients will be seen on a first come first served basis.
Referral letter from patients Consultant/GP is required for all blood tests, this letter should clearly state in legible writing the Patients details, Requesting Physicians details, the list of tests required and be signed and dated by the requesting physician.
Any patient presenting to the clinic without this letter will not be taken.
The Pathology Department is located directly across from the Outpatients department, on the right hand side when you come in the front gate.

Pathology Laboratory is open 09.00-17.00 Monday to Friday
